Baggywrinkle

Baggywrinkle BarleyWine by Cisco (Nantucket): Amber color, honey, caramel, brown sugar, maybe some cherry?  Just the right amount of bitterness with a smooth thin finish so as not to give you a bad aftertaste.  Barleywine is brewed mostly from pale malt, the same stuff used to make pale ale. The full flavor and rich color come from the amount of grain (often 2x pale ale and 2.5X Pilsner) that's crammed into it and the length of the boil which caramelizes a lot of the sugars, deepening the color and the flavor. It is also heavily hopped to balance, often up to and over 100 IBUs!

This one was 9% EtOH (that's what it said on the bottle, but on beer advocate it says 12%!).  Anyone know the IBU?  I would guess about 70.

Date consumed/shared: 3/2/12 and 3/3/12 (you don't want to drink it all in one night, you might die.  It took two of us two nights to consume).
COR: 30%
